United by a common belief that nature, beauty and history are for eveyone, the three NT founders, Octavia Hill, Robert Hunter and Hardwicke Rawnsley, set up the National Trust, which was founded this day in 1895, so that natural and historic places could be protected for future generations.
Th first property to be saved forever was the early 15th Century Alfriston Clergy House in East Sussex.
